Proactiv is a three step treatment for acne. It was developed in 1995 by Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields. It is known as a combination therapy acne medicine that combines prescription ingredients with over the counter ingredients that work together to fight acne.

It combines ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide and sulfur to exfoliate skin, unclog pores, and attack acne causing pathogens. It is designed to both get rid of current acne, and prevent against future acne. This product can be used by men and woman of all ages and skin types.

What are the three steps and what do they do?
The three steps of Proactiv skin care are “renewing cleanser,” “revitalizing toner,” and “repairing lotion.”

1. Renewing Cleanser: This benzoyl peroxide based cleanser has a course texture that cleans and exfoliates dead skin cells.
2. Revitalizing Toner: This alcohol free hydrator rejuvenates skin with witch hazel, Aloe Vera, and other medicated ingredients. This step leaves skin refreshed and hydrated.
3. Repairing Lotion: This final step keeps the skin protected from acne bacteria throughout the day. It is a gentle and non-irritating preventive lotion.

How is Proactiv different from other acne medication?
Many other acne products are spot treatments, only getting rid of existing acne and pimples. Contrasting, Proactiv gets rid of existing acne while preventing against future breakouts.
