HDTV, put-simply
What is HDTV? |
HDTV; High definition
television is the broadcasting of television stations with a higher
resolution and higher quality of picture. Hi-def television has about twice
the quality of resolution as a normal television, which allows more detail
to be seen in the picture. High definition television is broadcasted in
widescreen and digitally, enhancing the picture even more. This causes the
colors on the picture to looks more realistic and detailed, while providing
more clarity and specificity even on a large screen.
What is the difference between digital television and HDTV?
Although high definition television is broadcasted digitally, it has a more
detailed and better quality picture than digital television has. In other
words, all HDTV is digital, but not all digital television is HDTV. The only
difference between these two categories is resolution. Resolution is
measured mainly by 480i, 720i, and 1080i. A 480i television is strictly a
digital television with no high definition features. A 720i television is
the low end of HDTV, while 1080i resolution denotes a primarily high
definition television.
What is there to watch on HDTV?
Many channels are currently broadcasting in high definition. These include
major networks such as ABC, NBC, CBS, and the WB. Other specialty channels
such as Discovery, HBO, TNT, ESPN, and FOX, also have HDTV feeds. This large
amount of high definition channels has caused many cable systems to provide
HDTV service to its customers. A satellite television offers more HDTV
programs than regular cable service, yet they do not offer many local
network HDTV programs.
What is the cost of high definition television?
High definition television can be expensive. Many cable services offer basic
channels of HDTV for free, but specialty channels and movie channels will
come at an extra charge.
